LAE - making the pieces work together

Sponsorships

Our ability to bring about the improvements in laboratory automation and computing will require funding. If your company is interested in supporting our educational work such as Laboratory Automation Engineering, or our technology conferences please contact us. Among the projects under consideration are:

  • Technology specific conferences that encourage an in-depth examination of computing and automation technologies and how they will affect your labs operations
  • A course titled "Laboratory Automation for IT Professionals" - the reliance of automation on information technologies is going to require close cooperation between lab groups and IT services. The purpose of this course is to give IT professionals the background they need to understand laboratory computing and communications requirements, and bridge the gap between IT and lab groups.
  • Improving the ability for laboratory managers and directors to understand, manage, and make informed decisions about the use of automation and computing technologies in their facilities. This material was part of the recent "Manager's Guide to Lab Automation & Technology Management" course held in Nashua NH.
  • We are looking into a Summer workshop on laboratory automation for 2010. The intent is to provide an in-depth understanding of the practices and technologies that underly the successful design and development of laboratory automation programs.
  • Computing models - what information architectures are best for your lab? How do you pick designs that will adjust smoothly as your lab grows? Simply putting computers in the lab isn't an effective way of addressing computing. Planning your labs information structure needs thought about how your lab will work today and how it might grow. Our work addresses these points by first helping labs design functional models of the processes in your lab and then derive software and hardware systems that best support those models.

Please contact us for more information about these and other projects.
